A Message from the Supervising Principal
Welcome to Saint Demetrios Elementary School! Here at Saint Demetrios Greek-American Schools we are committed to doing all we can to make school a successful experience for every student. We strongly believe that a partnership between parents and faculty is necessary for the success of all of our students. The educational process is not easy! It involves sharing ideas, learning from your mistakes, and getting back up to challenge new experiences. It also involves dedication by everyone, the teacher, the parent, but most importantly the student.
Our experience shows us that a parent's involvement in a child's education is directly related to their success. As a school we ask that you assist us by:
- Ensuring that your child is at school on time.
- Attending parent/teacher conferences and school events.
- Monitoring your child's homework daily.
- Expecting and supporting positive behavior at school.
- Reading with your child.
Our school system values each student and provides the necessary tools for success. Our curriculum is based on the New York Content Standards. We also focus on the district's own education standards, which include preparing our students to work collaboratively, while becoming self-directed learners, skilled communicators, and comprehensive thinkers. Our students' achievements are the center of what we do.
You will see that your child's teacher is your best resource and we ask that you to build a strong partnership with him/her. We look forward to working with you as allies in educating your children.
In addition, there are numerous opportunities in which we welcome parents to become involved. Volunteers can have a positive impact to our program. More information regarding volunteering can be obtained through the P.T.A. Please consider supporting our school in this way.
